FROM EXPERIENCE TO QUALIFICATION: HOW RPL WORKS AND WHAT IT COSTS

You may have spent years working on building sites, installing equipment or supervising projects. Recognition of prior learning (RPL) gives you a way to have those skills assessed against a nationally recognised qualification. It is an assessment process, not a guaranteed certificate.

WHAT DOES THE PROCESS INVOLVE?

First, discuss your experience and the qualification you want. Next, the course team considers whether RPL is appropriate. You gather evidence such as previous certificates, work records, photographs or videos of your own work, and employer or supervisor statements. An assessor reviews that evidence and may ask questions, interview you or observe practical skills. If some requirements are not yet met, you may need further evidence, training or assessment.

HOW MUCH DOES RPL COST?

There is no single national RPL price. The fee depends on the qualification, the units assessed, the evidence available and any gap training required. Ask for a written individual quote that explains the total fee, what it includes, any potential additional charges and when payments are due.

CAN YOU PAY OVER TIME?

All Skills College can discuss staged or instalment payment options for eligible pathways. The deposit, payment dates and balance should be confirmed in an individual written agreement before enrolment. Ask whether assessment and gap training are included, and what happens if the process takes longer than expected. A payment plan spreads the cost; it does not change the requirement to demonstrate competence.
